Connecting any ERP, legacy or modern, to automation

An ERP connects to warehouse automation through warehouse software that sits between them. The ERP sends master data and orders; the warehouse software turns them into storage, retrieval and transport tasks for the machines, then returns receipts, shipments and stock levels. The ERP never needs to talk to a PLC.

Why the ERP’s age matters less than you think

An ERP from the 1990s and a current cloud suite both know the same business facts: items, orders, receipts, stock. What differs is how they exchange them. The warehouse software adapts to the ERP’s existing interfaces and formats so the ERP does not have to change.

What to plan for

  1. Master data quality: dimensions, weights and units are critical once machines handle the goods.
  2. Ownership of stock: decide which system is the reference for bin-level stock (normally the warehouse software) and how often to reconcile.
  3. Exceptions: short picks, damaged goods and cancellations must have a defined message.
  4. Monitoring: every message should be visible, so problems are found before the floor notices.

Kulmen connects to any ERP, legacy or modern, with ready-to-use APIs and real-time message tracking, and controls the automated storage on the other side.
